The temple complex consists of one main temple and 18 smaller ones, each with a ruling deity called “Dewa Chess Lokapala.” After being affected by a plague, Markandeya returned to Java and meditated on Mount Raung to receive God’s instructions. He performed the Panca Datu ritual, planting five metal elements at the mountain’s foot, to ensure his followers’ safety and the spread of Hinduism in Bali.

Klungkung’s “bat cave” temple, a hidden gem, features a cave inhabited by thousands of tail bats. At the temple’s mouth, Shivaite shrines and altars are located. Visitors should be aware of dress codes, as Bali temples are sacred places and require sarong rentals.
